Thomas Jefferson High School fencing team
We have officially made history as the first-ever inner-city fencing program not only in SAISD but in the city of San Antonio as a whole!
Even more impressively, after just two months of the program’s existence, our students competed this past weekend against established schools with over seven years of foundation and came away with major victories. Our fencers competed with incredible grit, and every single student won at least one individual bout against highly experienced opponents.
Our Big Wins:
Sofia: 2nd Place (Women’s Individual)
Yessenia: 3rd Place (Women’s Individual)
Sebastian T.: 9th Place out of 30 competitors
Relay Team (Sebastian, Teddy, Yessenia, & Sofia): 2nd Place overall, after a thrilling battle involving three “double touches” and a sudden-death finish against a top-tier team.
This program is already changing lives, and the students were moved to tears by what they achieved in such a short time.
